THAR DESERT

The Thar desert divides the central plains of India and Pakistan. An area that receives scant traces of precipitation during the Southwest monsoon and remains completely parched for the remainder of the year. I was interested in everyday life in the desert and the Kalbelia caste culture of the Gypsies, their musical tradition and the thought of what encroaching modernism might do to the continuation of their traditional music and dance form.
